Ailyak is not laziness.
It's the art of not rushing when there's no reason to.
In Plovdiv, conversations rarely begin with the point. First come the weather, friends, football, the new café, someone's dog, and everything happening around town. Only then does someone remember why everyone got together in the first place.
People practice ailyak everywhere—on the hills, at The Buttons, in Tsar Simeon's Garden, along the cobbled streets of Kapana, by the Maritsa River, or at the Rowing Canal. Not because these are simply the city's most beautiful places, but because time seems to move just a little slower there.
And perhaps that's Plovdiv's greatest secret.
Here, people don't measure a day by how much they got done.
They measure it by the conversations they had.
Because sometimes the most important thing you can do...
is simply to practice ailyak.
